Amazon Simple Storage Service (also called Amazon S3) is part of the Amazon Web Services and provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. You may want to find out the prices of these services before you sign-up.
In-order to setup and use Amazon S3 you will need to setup a free Amazon Web Services Account.
1. Sign-up for a Amazon AWS Account
Go to aws.amazon.com and sign-up to a Amazon Web Services Account.
Login with your existing Amazon account details (if you have one) or sign-up as a new user.
2. Now go to the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) section
After sign-up you will be presented a menu of services. Find the Amazon Simple Storage Service and click it.
4. Sign-up for Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3)
You can now sign-up for Amazon S3. Follow through the on-screen instructions. You will need to provide a payment method – i believe it uses the same system as it does for the Amazon shopping site.
5. Find your access details.
Once your account is all setup it’s worth knowing where your account access identifiers can be found. Go to the section for Security Credentials.
6. Your AWS Access Indentifiers
These are the account identifiers that you will need when accessing any of the Amazon Web Services including your Amazon S3 service. Account identifiers include your Access Key ID and Secret Access Key. You don’t need to write these down as they are available here when you need them but it’s important with all login details to keep them secure.
You now have all you need to access the Amazon S3 Simple Storage Service.
